Drones & their Classifications

There are various drones depending on the number of propellers they have, their weight, and also the features they have. According to these, we can divide the drones into three categories:

What is their weight?

i) Nano/ Mini Drones:

These are the smallest category of drones, for drone wedding photography, many of which would easily fit into our palms. They would weigh 250 grams or less and are the most preferred throughout the world. They carry a camera on board and are the most widely manufactured ones. Among all the regional weddings in India, Marathi Weddings are the ones filled with simple and vibrant rituals. There is no such ritual which can be termed as unnecessary or irrelevant. All the rituals have particular spiritual significance and exhibit the core values of the Maharashtrian culture.

Most of the wedding ceremonies are conducted during the day and spice up the whole event. While, some of the rituals may, however, vary according to the customs and beliefs of the people, here are some of the important rituals. The venue of the pre-wedding rituals of a typical Marathi wedding takes place at the respective houses of the bride and the groom.

The marriage procedures of a traditional Marathi wedding begins with Lagnaach Bedior or finding a suitable match. Once that task is done, the horoscopes of the boy and the girl are matched by the priests. It is only after the matching of the horoscope that the other wedding processes begin.

Pre- Wedding Traditions

The Sakhar Puda Ritual

The Marathi wedding ceremonies begin with the Sakhar Puda ritual or the engagement ceremony. The bride is gifted with a saree along with a packet of sweets or sugar by the groom’s family. The couple exchange rings after this.

Muhurt Karane

The exact date and time of the Marathi wedding is decided by the family priest and thus begins the wedding preparations at both the houses. Five married women or ‘Suhasanis’ are invited to participate in a ceremony where the women pound turmeric or halkund that is to be used later. They also roll out papads and make sandage i.e, pulses soaked and ground, mixed with spices and dried in the sun. after this ritual, both the families begin their shopping. The bride’s family often holds a rukhvat or an exhibition of decorative food prepared by the bride.

Marathi Wedding Invitation

Marathi wedding invitations are selected and printed. The first Marathi wedding card is always presented to Lord Ganesha as a symbolic request to grace the auspicious occasion by his divine presence.

The Kelvan Ritual

One or two days before the wedding, both the families offer puja to the family deity with their friends and relatives. This is the Kelvan Ritual and is followed by a meal.

The Halad Chadavne

This is the haldi ceremony and takes place a day before the Marathi wedding. The turmeric pound prepared during the Muhurt Karane ritual is used by the same five Suhasinis. They apply this paste on the head, shoulders, face, hands, and feet of the bride and the groom with mango leaves. This ceremony first takes place at the groom’s place and then the leftover turmeric is passed on to the bride’s place. The bridal attire for this ritual is usually a yellow saree or lehenga.

Wedding Traditions

The wedding day ceremonies begin with Ganapati Puja to take blessings of Lord Ganesha before other rituals. The bride is escorted to the Lagna Mandap by her maternal uncle where the mangalashtakas or the Sanskrit and Marathi verses are recited. The bride and groom have to wear a string of flowers or pearls on their heads, which is commonly known as mundavalya.

The Seeman Puja

The groom with his family arrives at the wedding venue and the bride’s mother washes his feet, does his aarti, applies tilak on his forehead and feeds him with sweets.

The Gurihar Puja

The bride is decked up in traditional attire which is usually gifted by her maternal uncle. She then worships a silver idol of Goddess Parvati placed on a mound of rice, by offering some rice, she seeks her blessings for a prosperous married life.

The Antarpat Ritual

The groom arrives at the mandap and sits at his designated place. The groom usually wears a white or cream colour sherwani and has his head covered by a traditional cap or turban. A cloth is held in front of the groom so that he is not able to see the bride, this cloth is called Antarpat.

The Sankalp Ritual

When the bride arrives at the mandap, the priest chants the Mangalahstakas or the holy wedding vows. The Antarpat is removed thereafter and the couple sees each other. They exchange garlands and are showered with unbroken rice or akshatas.

The Kanyadaan Ritual

The father of the bride, hands over his daughter to the groom through the kanyadaan ritual. The father blesses his daughter and her husband to lead a life of Dharma, Artha, and Karma. The bride’s parents worship the couple as avatars of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The couple ties a piece of turmeric or halkund with a thread on each other’s arms and this ritual is known as Kankan Bandhane. The groom then puts vermillion on the bride ‘s forehead and ties mangalsutra around her neck. The bride in return applies a sandalwood tilak on the groom’s forehead.

The couple now takes seven rounds around the sacred fire and chant the seven vows that they are expected to follow.

The Karmasampti Ritual

This is the last wedding ritual, the bride and groom pray in front of the sacred fire before it is extinguished and the bride’s father playfully twists the groom’s ear to remind of his future duties.

The groom carries the silver idol of Goddess Parvati which was worshipped during the Gurihar Puja. The Varaat refers to the procession that leads the bride to her husband’s home.

This is the first ritual after the Marathi Wedding which is conducted at the groom’s place. The groom’s mother embraces the couple and washes their feet with milk and water. Scintillating Rituals Of A Typical Muslim Wedding

Islam is one of the most prominent religions that has numerous unique rituals and traditions to follow in their ceremonies. Weddings are an integral part of the Islamic culture and are considered to be one of the primary duties of a Muslim wedding.

We have varied customs and prolific cultures throughout the wedding realm all over the world. Muslim Wedding traditions greatly differ according to different countries and regions, however, the ‘Nikah’ ceremony remains the same all over.

Traditional Islamic wedding rituals are a unique reflection of the rituals of the multi-cultural Indian sub-continent. Here are the rituals that are widely followed in most Muslim wedding.

Pre-Wedding Rituals of a Muslim Wedding:-

The Istikhara Ritual

The religious heads of the Muslim community come together to perform the most important ritual in a Nikah. They pray to Allah and seek his consent and blessings to commence the wedding.

The Imam-Zamin Ritual

To perform this ritual, the groom’s mother visits the bride’s house with sweets and a gold or silver coin wrapped in a silk cloth and ties it around the bride’s hand. This ritual signifies the bride’s formal acceptance into her future family.

The Mangni or Engagement

As happens in most engagement ceremonies, the boy and the girl exchange rings. Both families exchange gifts, fruits, sweets, and dry fruits. This ceremony officially seals the intention of marriage between the two families and the bride and the groom are considered betrothed to each other in the eyes of the society.

The Manhja Ritual

This is the haldi ceremony and the bride-to-be wears yellow clothes and a paste of haldi is applied to her face and body. Once the manjha ceremony is done, the bride is not supposed to step out of her house.

Mehndi

In some places, the muslim wedding ceremonies include a ritual of applying henna paste or mehndi on the hands and feet of the bride. Professional artists are appointed and all the ladies of the family get mehndi done on their hands.

The Sanchaq Ritual

The groom’s family sends clothes and ornaments for the bride which she wears during the Nikah ceremony.

Wedding Rituals of a Muslim Wedding:-

Baraat

The groom starts his journey towards the muslim wedding venue accompanied by his close friends and relatives. Usually, the bride’s brother comes in a beautifully decorated car to escort the groom to the venue. The relatives of the groom follow his car until the venue and are known as Baraat.

Welcoming the Baraat

At the entrance to the wedding venue, the groom is welcomed by the bride’s family members. He is then served with a glass of sherbet by his brother-in-law who also accompanies him with the drink. The relatives of the groom are sprayed with ittar or rose water as they enter the venue. The groom’s family then hands over the daala which consists of clothes and pieces of jewelry for the bride. The Shahana Joda which the bride will wear after the nikah comes with the daala.

The Nikah

The Nikah is the actual muslim wedding ceremony and is conducted in the presence of a Maulvi or the religious priest along with close members of both the families. According to customs men and women sit separately. The bride is given a certain pre-decided amount of money or Mehr by the groom’s family and is asked if she agrees to marry the groom with the Mehr. This question is asked thrice and if she agrees, the Maulvi then passes onto the groom and asks the same. This is known as Ijab-e-Qubul or proposal and acceptance.

Once the marriage is accepted by both the bride and the groom, they proceed to the signing of the Nikah-nama or the marriage contract. All the elders of the families now bless the couple.

Arshi Mushraf

Once the marriage is solemnized, the couple now gets a chance to see each other for the first time through the Arshi Mushraf Ceremony. A mirror is kept in between the bride and the groom and the Holy Quran is placed on top of it. The couple keeps eyes on the mirror where they can see the reflection of their spouses.

Post-Wedding Rituals

Rukhsat

Soon after the muslim wedding ceremonies are concluded, the bride leaves for her husband’s house. At her husband’s house, she is welcomed by her mother-in-law and as a gesture of welcome, the Holy Quran is placed on her head.

Walimah

This ceremony marks the public declaration of the marriage where the groom’s family holds a lavish reception party known as Dawaat-e-Walimah. The bride and groom are seated on a throne where they are greeted by the members of both the families.

The Chauthi Ceremony, Muslim Wedding

The Chauthi ceremony symbolizes the end of all the rituals of a traditional Muslim Wedding. In this ritual, the bride and her husband visit her parent’s home on the fourth day of the wedding. They are treated with a lavish lunch and presented various gifts and blessings.

Bengali Weddings- The Picturesque Rituals

Weddings are special and Indian Bengali Weddings are just a step better. Every community has its own set of rituals for every occasion. This diversity is what makes our country the best blend of tradition and culture.

Weddings in every region and community differ, yet their rituals and traditions remain common. Bengali weddings are an elaborate blend of customs and rituals which serve as a treat to our eyes.

Though Bengali weddings are not luxurious they do demand precision in performing the rituals. Here we have done a detailed analysis of all the picturesque rituals and traditions of the Bengali weddings.

Pre-wedding Rituals of a Bengali Weddings

Bengali weddings rituals begin a few months prior to the actual wedding date. Some rituals might have become obsolete today, yet, a few are rigorously followed.

Adaan Pradaan

There was a time when the families of the bride and the groom would meet at a place and fix the date for the auspicious occasion. The horoscope of the bride and groom would be matched and both the families would exchange gifts.

This ritual stands outdated today, the horoscope of the bride-groom is matched online and the date is communicated over the telephone.

Aashirvaad (Similar to Engagement Ceremony)

This ceremony marks the formal acceptance of the bride and groom on by either family. The elders of the family put husked rice and trefoil leaves on the head of the bride and groom and present them with gold ornaments as a sign of love and acceptance. This ceremony can be held either prior to the wedding or on the very day. This is also considered similar to the Engagement ceremony.

Aai Buro Bhaat

This ritual is the Bengali version of a bachelorette party. This ceremony takes place in the presence of near relatives, neighbours, and friends where the bride and groom are offered a platter of traditional Bengali delicacies, which is considered to be their last meal as a spinster or a bachelor.

Today the concepts of mehendi and sangeet have also been borrowed from North Bengali Weddings and merged with the Aai Budo Bhaat.

Dodhi Mangal

This ceremony takes place at the dawn of the wedding day. The ladies of the bride and groom’s family move together to a waterbody nearby to fill a pitcher of water, this water would be used for the snan ritual.

Post the water-filling ritual, the would-be couple is fed a preparation of curd, rice flakes, bananas and sweets at their homes and they are supposed to fast after having this meal until their bengali weddings ritual is over.

Nanhi Mukh/Vriddhi Sraddha

This ritual is performed just before the ‘gaye holud’ ceremony of the bride or the groom. For this occasion, a priest chants Vedic incantations and the families pay homage to their forefathers asking for their blessings.

Tattva

On the morning of the Bengali Weddings day, the groom’s family send gifts better-called tattva to the bride’s family. In the tattva there are gifts for each and every family member of the bride, a new saree for the bride which she will wear during the Gaye Holud ceremony along with it goes a big, decorated rohu fish, mustard oil, sweets and savouries, and personal grooming products for the bride.

Gaye Holud or the Haldi Ceremony

In this ceremony, a turmeric paste is applied on the body of the groom. This same paste is carried to the bride along with the tattva by the members of the groom’s family. The same paste is applied on the bride’s body and then the water brought from the water body is used to bathe the bride and groom respectively.

Sankha Porano

In Bengali weddings rituals, sankha and pola are considered to be auspicious and signs of a married woman. The bride is made to wear red and white conch shells- the white being the sankha and the red being the pola. The bride has to wear them before her gaye holud ceremony.

Bengali Weddings Rituals

Bor Boron

Bengali Hindu Weddings take place within a specific time period which is called the lagna. The groom with his family and friends reaches the wedding venue where at the entrance, the bride’s mother welcomes him with an aarti and tilak. The other guests of the groom’s family are also received with equal warmth and are served with light refreshments.

Potto Bostro

The groom arrives in dhoti and kurta which is the traditional attire for men in Bengal. When he is seated at the chaadnatola where the wedding rites would be performed, an elderly male member of the bride’s family would gift the groom new clothes which he would wear during thebengali weddings ritual. These clothes are known as potto bostro.

Saat Paak

The bride enters the chaadnatola where the groom is already seated with the priest. The bride is seated on a pidi or a low wooden stool, carried by her brother and other male members of the family and is carried around the groom seven times in a row. This process is called saat paak.

Subho Dristi

During the process of saat paak, the bride keeps her eyes covered with beetle leaves and only on the completion of the seven rounds she sets her eyes on the groom amidst the sound of conch shells and ululations. This ritual is called subho dristi.

Mala Badal

Mala badal is the ritual that follows subho dristi. The bride and groom exchange garlands made of fragrant flowers three times as a sign of their acceptance of each other.

Sampradaan

An elderly male member of the bride’s family hands the bride over to the groom and ties their hands with sacred threads. They are supposed to stay like this until the end of the rituals. This ceremony is called sampradaan or kanyadaan.

Saat Paak (on feet)

According to the Vedic rituals, the priest solemnizes the marriage in the presence of Fire God or Agnidev. The bride and groom are asked to go around the pyre or the fire seven times. The uttariya worn by the groom and the end of the bride’s saree is tied in a knot which is known as gantchhora. These seven steps that they take are known as saat paak.

Anjali / Kusumdinge

In this ritual, the bride stands in front of the groom and holding chaff in hand, by the process of winnowing, khoi is thrown into the fire. This ritual is called Kusumdinge or Anjali.

Sindoor Daan & Ghomta

The groom puts a vermillion mark or sindoor on the forehead of the bride and covers her head with a new saree provided by the groom’s family. This ritual is known as Sindoor Daan and it marks the end of the Bengali weddings rituals with the couple being pronounced husband and wife.

Bengali Weddings rituals

Basar Ghar

This is the ritual where the couple, as well as some young members of the family, loosen up in the presence of one another. On the night of thebengali weddings, after all the guests have departed, the couple along with some young members of the family occupy a room or basar ghar for fun and merriment. They play different games, dance, and sing, chat and have fun.

Bidaay & Bodhu Boron

It is time for the bride to leave her father’s home and move in with her in-laws. While she departs, she keeps throwing fistfuls of rice backward without turning back. This way, she tries to repay the debts of her father.

The newly-wed couple then arrives at the groom’s house where the groom’s mother now welcomes them with aarti and tilak. Also, the impression of the bride’s foot is taken on a white cloth using red colour dye. This ritual is called bodhu boron or welcoming the bride into the groom’s family.

Kalraatri

On the first night that the bride spends at her in-law’s house, the couple is supposed to sleep in separate rooms. This is known as kalraatri.

Post wedding rituals

Bou Bhaat & Reception

On the second day of the marriage, the bride cooks some dishes and serves it to her husband and other members of the family. This ceremony is called bou-bhaat. The husband also has to pledge to shoulder the responsibilities of the bride for the rest of his life by handing her a saree and a plate of food. This ceremony is known as bhaat kapor.

That day in the evening, the groom’s family arranges a grand reception to honour the couple. Guests from both the families are invited to join the dinner and bless the couple.

This ceremony is held on the second night of the marriage. The couple sleeps together on a bed decorated with flowers.

Oshtomongola

On the eighth day after the marriage, the couple arrives at the house of the bride. It is another time for merriment and joy on the part of the bride’s family. Guests are invited to partake of the happiness.

With this, the bengali weddings rituals of the Bengali Hindu culture comes to an end. Though Bengali marriages are laborious and time-consuming, there is no ritual as picturesque as these.
